International Women’s Day: Top 5 Nollywood Movie Directors

Today, March 8 is International Women’s Day and here are the top 5 Nollywood Movie Directors that are women.

1. Jadesola Osiberu:

Jadesola Osiberu is a Nigerian writer, director, and producer who founded Greoh Studios. She has directed movies like Isoken (2017), Sugar Rush (2019), Brotherhood (2022), and Gangs of Lagos, the first Nigerian original film to be streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. In September 2022, Osiberu’s Greoh Studios struck a three-year agreement with Amazon to create and produce original scripted TV series and feature films.

Osiberu was born into a royal family in 1985, and his father, Oba Adewale Osiberu, is the Elepe of Epe Sagamu. Osiberu completed her secondary school in Ibadan before earning a Computer Systems Engineering degree from the University of Manchester.She also graduated from Pan-Atlantic University with a degree in Media and Communications.

2. Biodun Stephen

Biodun Stephen’s filmmaking career began in 2014 with the release of The Visit. The film was hailed for its understated yet smart cast, plot, and creativity. It garnered two nominations for the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in Lagos.[3] During an interview with Tribune about various aspects of her work, she mentioned that acting was her “first love” but she hadn’t made a breakthrough in it, so she decided to develop by learning new talents overseas. Stephen said that getting nominated for the AMVCA was her proudest achievement, and it gave her the courage to continue creating films.

3. Kemi Adetiba:

Kemi Adetiba is unarguably one of the best Nollywood directors. The beautiful woman has directed several movies, however, the movie King of Boys seems to be the main turning point. It is a movie that will forever be spoken about when it comes to Nollywood.

4. Funke Akindele:

No doubt! Even though she is first of all an actress before transitioning to be a drector, Funke Akindele is an household name in Nollywood. She is a director with eye for details and all the movies she has directed like Battle on Buka Street, Tribe of Judah, Omo Ghetto and other have been bangers.

5. Ruth Kadiri:

Now called the Queen of Youtube videos. Ruth Kadiri is now one of the highest grossing movie director when it comes to Youtube. She gets millions of views for any movie uploaded on the streaming platform and has make a name for herself.
