What Is Next For Fireboy DML?
What is next for Nigerian music star Fireboy DML?
In 2018, a striving artist got discovered by Seyi Tinubu (now the First Son of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) when performing a song on TV. The PR expert was shocked at the developing talent, and in due time, through his help, the artist moved into one of the biggest labels in Africa.
The fun in this life-changing story was the artist’s finding out that he had been signed to YBNL, on social media, like all other people.
Fast forwarded to 2024, the artist is a household name in Nigeria and beyond; the artist has a super hit song featuring British singer Ed Sheeran; the artist has performed at the 90,000-person Wembley Stadium and at the Coachella; the artist has released three albums; the artist is Fireboy DML.
Although Fireboy DML is currently being criticized for dropping forgettable songs for two years in a row, a criticism he is aware of as he refers to it in his December-2023 single “Yawa,” he is still the guy who dropped “LTG” in 2019.
While his back-to-back singles, since the noise around “Peru” disappeared, have not done so well, he has not lost his magic and can do it again. He can deliver another super hit album.
But he may need to go back into making forever songs, like his first album, and leave TikTok-targeted songs to artists who know how to do them very well.
In a short, one sentence: What’s next for Fireboy is a comeback album!
